3 Things You’ve Likely Seen This Month

  1. Chatty and curious! Your toddler may be using 50 or more words and even combining them into short phrases like “want snack” or “go outside.”
  2. So much energy! Running, climbing, and even jumping—your little one’s gross motor skills are on full display.
  3. Tiny helper! They may enjoy simple tasks like putting toys away, mimicking your actions, or helping with small chores.

What’s Coming Up in Year 3?

  1. More Complex Language: They’ll start forming longer sentences and asking lots of “why” questions as their curiosity grows.
  2. Increased Independence: Expect more attempts to “do it myself,” from getting dressed to brushing their teeth.
  3. Social Growth: Playtime with others becomes more interactive, and they’ll start showing empathy and sharing more often.

Proactive Tip: Encourage language development by narrating your day and asking open-ended questions. Provide opportunities for social play to build cooperation skills.

Health Spotlight – The 2-Year Well-Child Visit

The 2-Year Well-Child Visit:

This key checkup helps ensure your toddler is growing and developing on track. Your pediatrician will:

  • Measure growth (height, weight, and BMI).
  • Check developmental milestones, including language, social skills, and motor abilities.
  • Screen for autism and other developmental concerns.
  • Discuss sleep, eating habits, and behavior changes.
  • Provide advice on potty training, safety, and toddler-proofing your home.

Vaccines at the 2-Year Visit:

While no routine vaccines are typically scheduled at this visit, your pediatrician may recommend a flu shot if it’s flu season.

Proactive Tip: Write down any questions you have about sleep routines, picky eating, tantrums, or potty training to discuss during the visit.
